Dr Doug Brown, Chief Policy and Research Officer at Alzheimer’s Society said: ‘Research will beat dementia and committed researchers in the field are key to ensuring this happens. Alzheimer’s Society awarded Raffaele second place out of 9 shortlisted candidates in the ‘Outstanding contribution to research’ for his continued demonstration of leadership and commitment to the field. His work building on our understanding of the genetics of frontotemporal dementia has been instrumental to this area of research. We look forward to continuing to work with Raffaele to ensure his research has the greatest impact for people affected by dementia’
Prof John Hardy, HoD, Department of Molecular Neuroscience said “It is nice to see Raf’s leadership of the FTD genetics consortium rewarded in this way. They have already made significant findings and hopefully others are on the way as the analysis continues”.

Dr. Raffaele Ferrari is a Alzheimer’s Society Junior research fellow in the Department of Molecular Neuroscience since 2014. His research focus is genetics and systems biology applied to the study of sporadic frontotemporal dementia (FTD)

Dr Philip Weston is a Specialist Registrar in Neurology with a clinical and research interest in cognitive neurology, particularly young onset and inherited dementias. He has published a number of recent papers that have advanced our understanding of how best to detect and track Alzheimer's related brain changes early in the disease process, even prior to the onset of clinical symptoms. His research has been funded by an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship, under the supervision of Professor Nick Fox.
