Professor Charles Hulme, Research Department of Language and Cognition, has been elected to membership of the Reading Hall of Fame of the International Reading Association and is also the 2016 recipient of the Marion Welchman International Award for contributions to research on Dyslexia from the British Dyslexia Association.

The Reading Hall of Fame was established in 1973 and its purpose is to contribute to the further improvement of methods of reading instruction. Election to membership requires a minimum of at least twenty-five years of active involvement in reading research and is restricted to those who are widely known and respected in the field.

The Marion Welchman International Award for contributions to research on Dyslexia from the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) was presented to Professor Hulme at the BDA’s international conference held this March in recognition of the importance of his work for understanding the nature and causes of dyslexia, and how such understanding can be translated into more effective methods of teaching children with dyslexia to learn to read.
