We are delighted to announce that Professor Xavier Golay (UCL Institute of Neurology) has been appointed as the new Vice Dean (Enterprise) for the UCL Faculty of Brain Sciences.

Professor Golay heads up the Department of Brain Repair and Rehabilitation, UCL Institute of Neurology, which brings together several different areas in basic and clinical neuroscience.

He has recent experience in fostering collaborations with industry and establishing spin-out companies, including Gold Standard Phantoms, a company that enables quantitative medical imaging, and Imgenious, an equipment and software company for medical imaging.

Professor Golay said “I am delighted to take on this very important position within the Faculty. Translational research is at the heart of everything I do, and there is no real translation in medical sciences without incorporation of new devices or molecules in the portfolio of the appropriate industries. I hope to be able to build upon the fantastic job done by Prof Moss in the last few years and to bring my own experience as an entrepreneur to further strengthen this component of our faculty”.

Professor Golay is taking over the role of Vice Dean (Enterprise) from Professor Steve Moss (UCL Institute of Ophthalmology). Professor Moss was Vice Dean for the last 4.5 years and notably increased the visibility of enterprise which, thanks to his efforts, is now considered a core activity within the Faculty.

Professor Moss also worked very effectively with UCLConsultants and with the Knowledge Transfer Champions to promote best practice and to ensure staff are clear on how they can access the relevant support to realise their enterprise and innovation ambitions.  He has been key to the Faculty’s leadership and we are very grateful for all he has done over these last few years.

Professor Golay will take up this new role on 1 September 2016 and we warmly welcome him to the Faculty’s senior leadership team.
