We are pleased to announce that Professor Andrew Dick will be the new UCL Duke-Elder Professor of Ophthalmology and that Andrew has also accepted a new role of Director of Joint Research for UCL and Moorfields Eye Hospital.  Professor Dick will combine this half time role with his existing position as Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Bristol.

Andrew has an outstanding track record as a clinician scientist, with over 250 publications centred around Immune mechanisms of autoimmune disorders of the eye, many of which are co-authored by colleagues at UCL and MEH. Andrew currently leads the Biomedical Research Centre’s Inflammation and Immunity Theme.

The Director of Joint Research will lead the strategic growth of collaborative UCL/MEH research initiatives. Professor Phil Luthert, Director of the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, said “We are proud of the fantastic research that the UCL MEH partnership already develops, but we have yet to achieve our potential. The success of both organisations is highly dependent on growth of research and it is clear that we can deliver better outcomes for future patients through joint working. This role is of vital importance to both partners and I have every confidence in Andrew to take us from strength to strength and to help us fulfil our ambitious strategy.”

Professor Dick said “It is an honour to join the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital at an exciting time in their development. Together the institutions form the world’s leading research-intensive translational ophthalmology centre, and are well positioned to make significant advances in the future. I very much look forward to working with colleagues to ensure we maintain engagement and progress in UK and international ophthalmology".
