UCL and MEH staff open Ghanaian Eye Clinic

The Ophthalmology Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra has opened its modern specialist eye centre to the general public. A team of 18 medical personnel from UCL and Moorfields Eye Hospital, led by Mr Ian Murdoch, traveled to Ghana to advise and train local staff and ensure that the facility opened on time.

The $3 million project will continue for another five years as UCL and MEH staff continue to train local specialists. Mr Murdoch said "With the development of this new integrated treatment centre, West Africa will be a vanguard for sub-specialty training in ophthalmology, which will be very exciting".

The launch event was reported widely in the Ghanaian media.
