UCL Institute of Ophthalmology works with its clinicians at Moorfields Eye Hospital to deliver expert training for ophthalmologists, trainee doctors, ophthalmic nurses, orthoptists and optometrists.
These CPD courses are suitable for ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses and other clinicians at all stages of their career, from revision courses for junior doctors to specialist best practice and novel techniques training suitable for consultants.
Courses
The course is designed to introduce those delegates unfamiliar with ophthalmology to the basic structure of the visual system including inherited and acquired defects on the first day to ensure everyone can fully benefit and participate in this course. Over the subsequent three days, a variety of educational techniques including lectures, interactive workshops and practical demonstrations, will be used to cover the course material.
The course will be of value to clinicians and medics who wish to practice in the field and expand their knowledge; to scientists and other paramedics who have an interest in clinical vision science; and to technicians working in ophthalmological or neurological electrodiagnostic units.

The five-day Macula Course has been running successfully over 30 years, started by Professor Alan Bird. Considered the premier retina course in Europe, participants attend from all over the world to study all aspects of retinal disease, taught by experts from Moorfields and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. We also work with sponsors to deliver a bespoke state of the art programme tailoring the sessions and presentations to the specific needs of the audience, usually over two days. We have recently organised it for professionals from Italy, UAE, Dubai, and Egypt coming to Moorfields and have held it off-site in Greece. With an emphasis on interactive teaching, workshops have also been included to share best practice, especially around the management of patients with complex disease and co-morbidity. Each course covers the latest developments in the field of medical and surgical retina, including the most recent clinical and scientific research. Courses can be designed with a greater focus on inherited retinal disease, oncology, uveitis, and other inflammatory eye diseases upon request.
