Our Mission

Our vision is a world in which Huntington’s disease is no longer something families have to worry about. We strive to achieve this future by combining world-class scientific expertise and the highest quality multidisciplinary clinical care. Our research spans the full range from laboratory research to understand how the Huntington’s disease gene causes the disease and how it affects the living human brain, through to the development of innovative new treatments and leading the world in clinical trial design and execution. We are committed to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians to contribute to the fight against HD.

We have been fortunate to meet hundreds of patients, their families and carers affected by Huntington’s disease (HD), who provide great inspiration for our team of clinicians and researchers at UCL. We are also indebted to our research volunteers and those who fundraise tirelessly for HD charities and research.

How You Can Help

Fundraising and donations are essential to the Huntington's Disease Centre. Funds provided by the donations of patients, relatives, and other supporters of our research and patient care are vital to our work. Cutting edge research demands flexibility and immediate access to funding to enable exciting and promising new avenues to be explored in a timely fashion through, for example, the purchase of new equipment and the employment or redeployment of highly qualified scientific and clinical staff.

The generously donated resources will undoubtedly make major contributions to alleviating the suffering of those afflicted by this terrible disease. Every penny is received with sincere gratitude and is used specifically for Huntington's disease research.

Next GENEration Cycle

Jenny, Tony’s wife, and Mum to their children Kelly and Emma was an intelligent, gentle natured woman with a huge love for her family, music and dance. Huntington’s disease started to take away who she was at just 40 years old. Jenny and many others have faced years of painful experiences losing the ability to walk, talk, eat and think. Devastatingly, it’s too late for Jenny, but ground-breaking research in gene silencing shows there is real hope of changing the way things are for the Next GENEration

Inspired by an American family suffering with HD who cycled 3000 miles across the US in 8 days producing a film called The Longest Journey, one man and his family decided to extend the reach of their message by journeying the length of the UK with two teams of cyclists in just three days. 

In May 2019, they cycled for 24 hours a day and through the night, with teams leapfrogging each other down the country 50 miles at a time. 

Their aim was to generate maximum possible impact by producing a film documenting their efforts alongside their personal story of Huntington’s Disease. The film is due for release in Autumn 2020 and you can watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HMVzl60dRs&feature=youtu.be

They wanted to raise awareness and funds to support the 'gene silencing' research being conducted by the UCL Huntington's Disease Centre. Their target was £5000 and they managed to raise an astonishing amount of over £22,000.
