What is slide scanning?
A virtual or digital slide is created when the entire area of a histological slide are scanned to produce a high resolution whole slide image (WSI) using a slide scanning system for medical or experimental image analysis. WSI can be stored and accessed from an offline or networked storage system, and viewed on a computer screen with a WSI viewer or a web browser-based image management software.
Scanning and archiving slides
We can scan and archive your histology and fluorescence slides at high resolution with our high-throughput Hamamatsu NanoZoomer S360 and NanoZoomer S60 slide scanners. We can also scan large slides.
You can choose to take away the WSI on a provided external hard disk drive or store them on our secure, password-protected server at a low cost. Check our price list.
WSI file sizes are between 0.5 and 3 gigabytes depending on the size of your tissue section. Users who want to take away their slides can bring an external hard disk drive (1 terabyte drives can take 500-2000 slides) or we can set up remote downloading from our servers and remove them from our servers after 30 days.

Review multiple slides
Whole slide images are ideal for the comparison of slides, permanent archiving of whole fluorescence slides, or for taking publication-quality images of your slides in perfect contrast, white balance and in vivid colours without worry of chromogen/fluorophore degradation. WSI can be accessed remotely at any time with on any computing device (PC, Mac, tablets) through a web browser or offline using a WSI viewer.
Teleconferencing
We can offer remote assistance to researchers who have WSI stored on our server. The conference feature in NDP.serve 3 allows simultaneous sharing and interactive viewing for participants anywhere over the internet, in a platform-independent web browser.
Remote access
Users who store their WSI with us can get exclusive access to their slides from any web browser. These users will get login credentials to access their WSI on our server.
