Adult Neuromuscular Service
The Division of Neuropathology receives approximately 150 muscle biopsies annually from adult patients.
Dr Ashirwad Merve and Prof Karl Frontzek are the lead Neuropathologists for the service which provides a diagnostic service and supports the mitochondrial disease and the McArdle’s disease NCG services based in the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. All cases are discussed at weekly multidisciplinary team meeting and a record of the discussion is made available on the electronic patient record.
Professor Sebastian Brandner and Professor Zane Jaunmuktane provide the peripheral nerve service. We receive approximately 100 cases annually, including 30 referrals. Cases are discussed in weekly clinical meetings with the peripheral nerve team led by Professor Mary Reilly.
