Davide Bono, PhD student, Cognitive Neuroscience

Davide Bono, from Italy, is a second year PhD student studying Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience.

1. What is your educational background?

My background is in psychology. I got a BSc in psychology and an MSc in neuroscience from two different Italian universities.

2. Why did you apply to UCL Brain Sciences?

I applied to UCL Brain Sciences because of the excellent quality of research that is conducted here.

3. What is the best thing about your course?

Before starting my PhD at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, I read many brilliant scientific publications. I remember that I admired the authors of these particular papers for the quality of their research. The best thing about my PhD program is that now I get to collaborate with many of them.

4. What do you find interesting about your field of study and what inspires you?

Cognitive Neuroscience is a nascent field of study. Undertaking research in this field is a challenging and interesting experience at the same time. It is challenging because you are taking part in the growth of a new discipline which is an enjoyable process.

5. Do you think studying at UCL Faculty of Brain Sciences is a good investment?

My experience at the Faculty of Brain Sciences has been highly immersive and engaging so far. This shows how it is a good investment for my personal growth and professional career.

6. Have you undertaken any networking opportunities either as part of your degree or outside of your studies?

UCL Brain Sciences is the fulcrum that gathers researchers from many different subject areas. Joining one of the many symposium events organised by the faculty always represents a fruitful networking opportunity.

7. What is it like studying in London and how do you think it has benefited your studies?

Studying in a multi-ethnic city like London and joining a prestigious university like UCL has been a pivotal experience in my life.

8. How do you think the system of learning/researching at UCL differs from that in your own country?

UCL has a powerful network. It is the centre of world-leading research and the meeting point for many international researchers. This is one of the main reasons why I moved to London.
