ICN Programming course

This ICN course is a series of seminar sessions aimed at students who have little or no experience with programming.

This seminar series introduces Python from zero for postgraduate students. In Term 1 we’ll cover the fundamentals of computer programming: setting up and running code; variables and simple data types; lists (and NumPy arrays); dictionaries; and basic control flow (conditionals and loops). We will also touch on functions and introduce classes in an object-oriented way. In Term 2 we’ll provide a concise introduction to analysis workflows: Jupyter notebooks; pandas for data handling; plotting with matplotlib/seaborn; descriptive and basic inferential statistics; and a practical finale building cognitive neuroscience experiments in PsychoPy. Each seminar includes tutorial scripts, sample datasets, slides, and optional end-of-lecture exercises.

Everyone can register for this course and there is no assessment.

Lecture Times: Tuesday afternoons 1–3pm in Term 1 and Friday afternoons 1–3pm in Term 2. Excluding reading weeks
