MECHANX – online study

What is MECHANX (online)?

We want to understand how different treatments for anxiety may change the way different people learn and process information. We hope that this will help us identify who might benefit from which treatment, and why.

What will do?

You will complete the whole study online. You will receive an email after completing each step, describing what to expect next. The steps are:

Step 1: pre-screening (approx. 15 minutes). This quickly checks whether you are eligible to participate. Once you tick the three consent boxes below, the eligibility form will pop up. Extra questions might appear depending on your answers.

Step 2: mental health questionnaire (approx. 30 minutes). This confirms that you are experiencing mental health symptoms which qualify you for our study.

Step 3: cognitive games. You will complete a few online games that measure different aspects of thinking patterns. It will take approximately 40 minutes, but if you complete all of the games, it can take up to 1.5h in total. You can complete the games in two parts. You will get a bonus for completing each cognitive game.

Steps 4, 5 and 6: identical to Step 3, but repeated 1, 3 and 6 months after Step 3.

Will I get paid?

You will be reimbursed at a rate of £10 per hour spent completing steps 2, 3 and 4. If you are found ineligible after Step 2, you will be reimbursed for your time completing that step.
