Subretinal gene augmentation therapy has shown significant success to treat autosomal recessive RPE65-related inherited retinal diseases (IRDs). However, adverse effects include peripheral chorioretinal atrophies independent of age such as gene therapy associated uveitis (GTAU). Therefore, differentiation of treatment-related effects from natural disease progression is highly warranted.
