CEHP Seminar - Prof. Joshua Stott

Abstract: Autism and ADHD have historically been viewed as childhood conditions, with research focussing on children and young adults. More recently, however, we and others have been examining the experience of neurodivergent people as they age. In this talk I will discuss findings from two grant funded projects (AUDIT-50, ECHO-ADHD) about the health and mental health experiences of autistic adults and adults with ADHD as they age as well as how healthcare systems do and can respond to this. I will discuss findings from GP records, unique data (n=8 million) on national talking therapy services, birth cohort studies and qualitative work that address these questions. 

Joshua Stott is a Professor of Ageing and Clinical Psychology at University College London, director of the UCL ADAPT lab and an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist and experienced clinician with over 20 years of post-qualification clinical practice. His research focuses on the physical and mental health and healthcare outcomes for people with ADHD and autism as well as psychosocial interventions to improve quality of life in people affected by dementia, mental health and social variables as dementia risk factors, and using secondary data to understand healthcare outcomes.
