Seminar topic:
At the UCL Aspire Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology (Aspire CREATe) we develop translational research that will ultimately improve the quality of life of people with spinal cord injuries (SCI). We focus on blending assistive technology with advanced rehabilitation devices to actively promote the restoration of function. Our teams are investigating whole-body multimodal approaches addressing nerve, spinal and brain injuries, in particular developing therapies that translate to functional independence. This talk will look at new ways of using robots and games for rehabilitation and will demonstrate how strategies that aim to ‘trick’ the brain can have a positive impact on the recovery of cognitive and physical injuries and in reducing pain.
