Quantifying subtle blood brain barrier dysfunction using MRI
Abstract: “Blood-brain barrier (BBB) damage is implicated in a range of neurological conditions, often occurring early in disease progression. As such, non-invasive detection and quantification of subtle BBB dysfunction has the potential to help understanding of pathogenesis and to aid early diagnosis. We have been developing MRI methods to quantify BBB disruption based on the measurement of leakage of contrast agents and on the measurement of water exchange between the vascular and extravascular spaces. This talk will summarise the methods developed to date and findings in Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions."
