Of Mice and Men: Bittersweet Tales of Translation (The case of MR imaging of Glucose)
GlucoCEST was developed as a potentially revolutionary method to image native glucose or analogues using MRI. What is so appealing to this method is the fact that no labelling with any radioactive or other isotope is needed, making the tracers or biologically active contrast agents potentially cheap and easy to distribute. While many preliminary data in animals rightfully concluded that the method was reproducible and could deliver completely new information in both brain and cancer metabolism (primarily), translation of the method, in particular at clinical field strengths, turned out to be more problematic than expected. In this presentation, I will be showing the necessary steps needed for a complete translation, and where we stand (as a field), so far, along that path.
There will be coffee, tea and cake in the conservatory directly after the talk.
