CNT Seminar: Professor Clare Elwell
The BRIGHT project - Brain Imaging for Global Health
Abstract:
One third of the world’s children living in low and middle income countries fail to reach basic milestones in their cognitive development. Lack of essential nutrients and exposure to infectious diseases, pollution and poor living conditions during the first 1000 days of life can create a toxic environment for the developing brain. This talk will describe how the BRIGHT project is using functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to understand infant brain development in resource poor settings with the aim of informing interventions to protect and save the brains of the world’s poorest children.
