Relaxometric MRI: Initial experience in ageing and cognitive impairment
Abstract:
Ageing is associated with changes in the cerebral physico-chemical environment, such as water, myelin and iron content, which in turn can be reflected in detectable alterations in MR relaxation rates. In my lab, we studied physiological ageing by relaxometric MRI focusing on hippocampal grey matter (GM) and white mater (WM) globally. In particular we showed that T1 and T2 relaxations are affected by WM microstructure. I will also summarise our initial observations in patients with mild cognitive impairment, and illustrate the application of our advanced MRI relaxometric toolbox.
