Advanced Management of Tinnitus and Hyperacusis
This three-day CPD-accredited Masterclass provides a comprehensive overview of tinnitus and hyperacusis and strategies for assessing and managing these conditions in adults and children.

During this long-established masterclass you will have opportunities to interact with a number of established international experts in the fields of tinnitus and hyperacusis and learn from them about theory, good clinical practice and recent research. You will also have an opportunity to discuss your own experience with a range of professionals from different backgrounds.
This 3-day course will take place in person at the Ear Institute on 10-12th Feb 2027 . Days 1 and 2 will focus on tinnitus, hyperacusis and misophonia in adults. Day three will focus on tinnitus, hyperacusis and misophonia in children.

You should have some experience working with or observing patients with tinnitus and/or hyperacusis. People who are just beginning to work in this area are also very welcome.
If you are taking the assessments to go with this module, you will need to be available to attend a practical exam in person at UCL Ear Institute on Friday 26th February 2027. Please note assessments are optional for external delegates; you can choose the assessment or non-assessment rate at time of booking.
The course covers a wide range of topics on tinnitus and hyperacusis, including
- The neurophysiology of tinnitus and hyperacusis
- Clinical assessment and management strategies for adults and children
- New developments and current research
These topics will be covered through a mixture of lecture presentations and interactive workshops. Supplementary learning material will be available on the course website.

The course is led by Dr Lucy Handscomb, with contributions from several experienced researchers and clinicians. All materials will be available via the dedicated course page on UCLExtend.
Following this course, you will:
- Be able to describe the theories of tinnitus generation and scientific evidence in terms of neurophysiological mechanisms linked to tinnitus and hyperacusis
- Have knowledge of key current research on tinnitus and hyperacusis Be able to use effective assessment strategies with patients
- Be able to describe a range of therapies for tinnitus and hyperacusis and the differences between them
- Know how to manage hyperacusis and tinnitus in children and special populations
You'll receive a certificate of attendance for completion of the masterclass. This masterclass is suitable for British Academy of Audiology Higher Training scheme candidates undertaking the tinnitus and hyperacusis module.

To secure a place, a purchase order document must be received within 7 working days of the course start date.
All cancellations and refund requests for Ear Institute Short Courses must be submitted in writing to: ear.courses@ucl.ac.uk.
1. Cooling‑Off Period
You may cancel your place within 7 days of making the payment and receive a full refund, unless this 7‑day period falls within 14 days of the course start date. In that case, the standard cancellation terms apply.
2. Cancellations Made After 7 Days of Payment
If you cancel more than 7 days after payment and 14 or more days before the course start date, you will receive a refund minus a 20% administration charge.
3. Cancellations Made Less Than 14 Days Before the Course Start Date
If you cancel your place fewer than 14 days before the course start date, no refund will be issued.
4. Replacement Delegates and Full Courses
A refund request may be considered if the course is full and a replacement delegate is found to take your place. This includes nominating a colleague or offering the place to someone on the waiting list. A 20% administration charge applies.
5. Deferrals
It is not possible to defer your place to a course running in the next academic year. Moving your booking to another course running in the same academic year might be possible subject to availability.
6. Refund Payments
Approved refunds will be processed within 30 days of receiving your written cancellation and issued using the same method of payment.
