Jonathan was the first Deafness Research UK (now Action on Hearing Loss) PhD student, working with Professor Ashmore (FRS) at the University of Bristol. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Prize-International-Travelling Fellowship (1995) and a Royal Society University Research Fellowship (1999-2007). In 2000 he established his own laboratory at UCL studying the mechanisms of damage, survival, repair and regeneration in the inner ear funded by (past and present): AoHL, Wellcome Trust, BBSRC, EPSRC and MRC. Jonathan is a theme lead for the new UCL/UCLH-BRC in Deafness and Hearing Problems and he organises and teaches the Anatomy & Physiology of the Audiovestibular System for Ear Institute MSc students. He was a Faculty member on the MBL Biology of the Inner Ear Course (USA), an Associate Editor for JARO and is currently on the Action on Hearing Loss TRIH grant panel.
