Welcome to the UCL Ear Institute
Our vision is to be the world’s leading centre for investigations into mechanisms of hearing and all forms of hearing loss and ENT-related disorders, their causes, and their treatment.
We provide a unique environment for undergraduate education, graduate teaching and research training in hearing sciences and related clinical subjects. Our programmes draw on clinical expertise from the associated Royal National ENT hospital, housing the largest clinical audiology unit in the UK.
We look forward to welcoming you to our inspiring community soon.
Prof Jennifer Linden
Welcome to your programme
Congratulations on your offer to study Audiology at the UCL Ear Institute.
The Institute is home to pioneering academics, researchers and clinicians who are passionate about what they do, many of whom teach on the Audiology BSc.
This programme has been developed to train the next generation of clinical audiologists who will help support people with hearing loss and other ear conditions, researchers who will investigate new ways to diagnose and treat these conditions, and professionals working in audiology industry or for charities.
You will regularly meet people with hearing loss, professionals working in the field, and you will undertake many hours of supervised clinical placement to develop your skills, knowledge and confidence.
Audiology degrees across the UK have around a 90% employability rate and there is a national shortage of audiologists and hearing aid dispensers, so your job prospects are excellent.
We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly Audiology community soon.
Dr Hannah Cooper, Director of Education and Associate Professor - Teaching

Ranked #1
UCL has been named University of the Year 2024 by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.
Sunday Times Good University GuideMeet your module leaders
On the Audiology BSc programme, you will be taught by leaders within the fields of audiology and audiovestibular medicine, many of whom continue to work as audiologists who can provide you with first-hand advice and guidance during your studies.

Dr Lucy Handscomb
Module lead for the Communication Skills module and Admissions Tutor for the Audiology BSc programme
Lucy researches communication and tinnitus, including how older adults with hearing loss used video calls during the pandemic. She also works as a hearing therapist, bringing clinical experience to her teaching.
Good communication is a fundamental skill for all healthcare professionals. We know that good conversations between patients and staff make a big difference to people’s outcomes. In audiology, we have the added dimension of communicating with people who don’t hear well. Being able to communicate well underpins everything we do, which is why we put this module right at the start of your degree programme.

Dr Bhavisha Parmar
Module lead for Case Based Learning 1
Bhavisha, a UCL graduate and Audiologist of the Year 2022, researches how to improve audiology services in the UK and low-resource countries.
The Case Based Learning 1 module is a great opportunity to bring together the topics you have covered in practical skills and theory-based modules, and apply them to solve real clinical cases. We invite audiology patients to share their experiences and work with you to build more complex clinical scenarios and integrate patient centred approaches to audiological assessment and management.
