Background
At UCL we aim to use our research and educational excellence to transform how the world is understood, how knowledge is created and shared, and the way that global problems are solved.
In December 2016 UCL was selected as the UKDRI HQ of the new £250m UK Dementia Research Institute (UKDRI). Our expertise within the Institute of Neurology (IoN) was critical to our success in this bid.
We recognise that our current facilities at Queen Square House are inadequate and we need to replace and significantly expand them for all neurological diseases. So, in February 2017, the enabling neuroscience programme was started, to plan and deliver the vision of a new building that facilitates collaboration with partners and industry, promotes inter-disciplinary working, and utilises space in an optimised manner.
As a national headquarter site for the DRI the new building will be open and welcoming to colleagues from different Dementia Research Sites. It will further recognise our place in the community, be environmentally friendly, and will ensure we enable those around us to benefit from our science, knowledge and the building itself.
The redevelopment of Queen Square House to house our world-leading Institute of Neurology is part of the most ambitious and exciting portfolio of change and improvement that a UK university has set its sights on.
