The Orchestras of Auschwitz
Presented by Constella Music
In 2015, composer and conductor Leo Geyer uncovered a profound and haunting discovery: musical manuscripts written by prisoners in Auschwitz that have been overlooked in the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum archives. Now, after years of meticulous restoration in collaboration with historians, musicologists, and Holocaust survivors, these fragments of history come to life in The Orchestras of Auschwitz (as seen on Sky TV), premiering this June at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre.
This opera-ballet production commemorates 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz through an evocative blend of music, dance, and drama. Comprising a series of vignettes, this production will showcase the raw and truthful stories of the prisoner orchestras - from their harrowing reality, moments of defiance, and their secret acts of hope through hidden musical messages and private compositions.
The production will be choreographed by the internationally acclaimed Claudia Schreier, with restored music performed by Constella Music
