Verse and Worse: the science of poetry and the art of science

Presented by UCL Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience

A poet and writer (Will Eaves) and a neuroscientist (Sophie Scott), from the Neuromantics podcast, curate an evening of science and poetry to see if they can make sense of their connections.

Does science illuminate poetry? Does poetry render science pointless? Will Sophie start crying? Will and Sophie are joined by poets and voice performers including FFSYTO, Luke Kennard and Ian Sansom, and the scientist Fred Cummins. They will carry out some experiments onstage, including 'Anatomy of a Poet', in which Sophie investigates what goes on in the brain when Will is reciting a poem.

Come for the poetry, stay for the science, discover what marvels – and blank spaces – lie within Will's cranium.
