Abstract: During this talk I wish to illustrate through case studies, mainly focused on developmental biology, why an integrated modelling-experimental approach is often critical in understanding phenomenon ranging from biological regulation to development, and how genes also interact, and get selected for, at the ecological scale. I will provide a synthesis of how our lab, together with collaborators, have connected cellular patterns to tissue polarity, and why we regard these basic interactions as universal modulators for biological patterning. I will also share with the audience what I see are the main academic challenges in our field of Developmental Biology, given its interdisciplinary nature.

Host: Dr Alessandro Mongera

About the Speaker

Dr Veronica Grieneisen

Reader at Cardiff University

My overarching goal is to unravel the origin and impact of cell and tissue polarity in developing organisms. My strategy has been to compare, contrast and test mechanisms linked to polarity and pattern formation, with inspiration derived from a wider set of systems within both the plant and the animal kingdom.
