In his talk, Nobel Prize winner, Professor John O'Keefe, FRS FMedSci, will describe the events leading up to the discovery of place cells in the hippocampus and how this led to the Cognitive Map theory. Along the way, he will discuss the roles of technological advances, serendipity, and the prepared mind in scientific breakthroughs.
