Title: The human genome harbours widespread cryptic yin yang haplotypes
Date & Time: Wednessday, 23rd November at 3pm
Venue: Watson Lecture Theatre, Medawar Building
Abstract:
A pair of yin yang haplotypes consists of a pair of haplotypes which differ at every locus. A systematic search of 1000 Genomes data reveals that pairs of exclusive, long yin yang haplotypes, such that every human chromosome possesses one or the other, appear to be surprisingly common. I report on their geographical distribution, ancestral origins and relationship with genes as potential approaches towards shedding light on their origins and function.
