UCL Division of Biosciences

UCL Centre for Life’s Origins and Evolution (CLOE)
CLOE provides world-class laboratory facilities and interdisciplinary collaborations between leading groups within the same space, with one-on-one teaching and opportunities to continue from extended MSci research projects into an MRes programme or doctoral training programme.

There are opportunities to study within CLOE at undergraduate, Masters, and PhD levels:

  • PhD: CLOE’s academic staff supervise doctoral students funded through several different avenues, notably the NERC London Doctoral Training Partnership and the BBSRC London Interdisciplinary Doctoral Programme. Further details about opportunities to study for a PhD with us can be found on the departmental website.
  • MRes: We are developing a new MRes programme in Evolutionary Genomics and Computational Biology, which will work alongside the conservation focused MRes in Biodiversity, Evolution and Conservation.
  • Undergraduate: CLOE staff teach on several undergraduate programs, including the Zoology and Biodiversity and Conservation pathways that are available for BSc and MSci degrees in Biological Sciences. CLOE staff teach on undergraduate modules Life on Earth; Energy and Evolution; Sex, Genes and Evolution; and Fundamentals of Molecular Biology. CLOE also hosts undergraduate research projects undertaken by UCL students.
