Radiocarbon dating

To shed light on the debate on how farming in  Britain began, radiocarbon dates can be used to estimate changes in population density.

The graphic below, first published in the Journal of Archaelogical Science in 2010, suggests a rapid increase in population density coincident with the appearance of cultigens around 6000cal BP.

The publication offers strong support for the migrant farmers hypothesis.
