New Director of Division appointed

Frances Brodsky

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Frances Brodsky as our new Divisional Director, succeeding Professor John Carroll and interim/Acting Director, Professor Neil Millar.

Professor Brodsky joins UCL from the University of California, San Francisco. She is the principal investigator of a research laboratory focusing on cell biology related to human glucose metabolism and immune system function, funded by the National Institutes of Health, and has taught in the UCSF PhD, PharmD and MD programs. Prof Brodsky received an AB in Biochemical Sciences (1976) from Harvard University and a DPhil in Genetics (1979) from Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar. She was a Damon Runyon postdoctoral fellow, a Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences and received the American Society of Cell Biology WICB Senior Career Award (2007), publishing over 100 scientific papers and serving on national and international research review panels. With an interest in writing about science for the general public, as well as the professional community, she has published three scientific mystery novels under the pen name B.B. Jordan and was a founding editor, along with UCL’s Mark Marsh, of the professional journal Traffic.

Professor Brodsky will be formally taking up her new role at UCL on 1st January 2014.
