Congratulations to Drs Flemming Hansen and Alan Lowe on their recent promotions

23 June 2017

We are very pleased to announce Drs Hansen’s and Lowe’s research work has been recognised and rewarded in the recent round of Academic promotions.

Dr D Flemming Hansen, who joined the ISMB with a BBSRC David Phillips fellowship in October 2010, has been promoted to a Professor of NMR Spectroscopy.
Dr Hansen has been fascinated by macromolecular motions and dynamics since the onset of his scientific career. His current research activities are focused around the development of new NMR-based methods to understand how the motions of protein side chains and regulatory ions relate to the function and regulation of macromolecular complexes, such as, histone deacetylases and the von Willebrand Factor.

Dr Alan Lowe has been promoted to a Senior Lecturer position in recognition of his input to single-molecule biophysics and quantitative imaging field.
Dr Lowe creates and develops quantitative imaging and measurement tools and use them to determine how biological machines and systems function. The major goal of his research group is to identify the principles and mechanisms by which an ensemble of molecules or cells generate particular dynamic temporal or spatial patterns, and how complex functions emerge from that organisation.
