Title: Lessons from genetic studies on major depressive disorder (MDD)

Abstract: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a complex and heterogeneous disease that involves many genetic and environmental factors, where a variable combination of which may be active in each case. It remains a challenge in data collection to gain sufficient statistical power to discover any one genetic factor through GWAS. In this presentation I will explore the different ways data is collected for GWAS on MDD, the biological insights into the etiology of MDD enabled by the deep phenotyping approach, and the differences in genetic architecture and environmental factor risk profiles of depression collected through different approaches.
