Entry requirements

2018 entry

For applications submitted in the 2018 UCAS cycle (i.e. from 1 September 2017 to 15 January 2018) for entry in either September 2018 or September 2019, please refer to the information below. Applications for entry in 2019 or 2020 should review the revised entry requirements below.

A Levels

A*AA - AAA to include a mixture of arts (including humanities and social sciences) and science/maths subjects. See the list of preferred UK GCE A Levels.

Major pathway requirements:

  • for Cultures, two subjects from within arts, humanities or social sciences plus one further science or maths subject. 
  • for Health and Environment, Biology or Chemistry, one further science or social science subject plus one further subject from within arts, humanities or social sciences;
  • for Sciences and Engineering, Mathematics, a further science or maths subject plus one further subject from within arts, humanities or social sciences; 
  • for Societies, two subjects from within arts, humanities or social sciences plus one further science  or maths subject. 

In addition, GCSE English Language and Mathematics at a minimum grade B / 6 are required for all programmes.

IB Diploma: 

38-39 points with a score of 18-19 in three higher level subjects to include a mixture of arts (including humanities and social sciences) and science subjects. The specific subject requirements for each pathway is shown below.

Major pathway requirements:

  • for Cultures, two higher level subjects from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 plus one subject from Groups 4 or 5 OR three higher level subjects from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 plus at least two standard level subjects from Groups 4 or 5 with grades of 6 in each.
  • for Health and Environment, Biology or Chemistry at grade 6, one subject from  Groups 3, 4 or 5 plus one subject from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 at higher level OR Biology or Chemistry at grade 6 and two further subjects from groups 4 or 5 at higher level plus two standard level subjects from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 with grades of 6 in each;
  • for Sciences and Engineering, Mathematics at grade 6, one further subject from Groups 4 or 5 plus one subject from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 at higher level OR Mathematics at Grade 6 and two further subjects from Groups 4 or 5 at higher level plus two standard level subjects from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 with grades of 6 in each;
  • for Societies, two higher level subjects from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 plus one subject from Groups 4 or 5 OR three higher level subjects from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6 plus at least two standard level subjects from Groups 4 or 5 with grades of 6 in each.

2019 entry

  • for Cultures, at least one essay-based arts/humanities subject.
  • for Health and Environment, Biology or Chemistry and one further science or social science subject.
  • for Sciences and Engineering, Mathematics and one further science or maths subject.
  • for Societies, at least one social sciences or essay-based arts/humanities subject.

In addition, GCSE English Language and Mathematics at a minimum grade B / 6 are required for all programmes.

Applicants who are not offering a mix of arts/humanities/social science and science/maths subjects will be asked to take an online test to determine their suitability for the pathway they're applying for. Details of this will be sent out after the initial assessment of their application.

IB Diploma: 

39 points with a score of 19 in three higher level subjects. The specific subject requirements for each pathway are shown below.

Major pathway requirements:

  • for Cultures, at least one higher level subject from Groups 1, 2 or 6.
  • for Health and Environment, Biology or Chemistry at grade 6 plus one subject from  Groups 3, 4 or 5.
  • for Sciences and Engineering, Mathematics at grade 6 plus one further subject from Groups 4 or 5.
  • for Societies, at least one higher level subject from Groups 1, 2, 3 or 6.
