Module requirements

Quantitative/Science courses

All students are expected to take at least 15 credit module each year in a subject that can be classified as quantitative or scientific each year. This can be quantitative in the traditional sense, e.g. mathematics, statistical analysis, econometrics etc., or a lab-based course that requires data analysis, e.g. a chemistry module, many psychology modules or an engineering module. Therefore, one of your core or pathway choices each year must be in a quantitative or scientific subject. The following BASc-coded modules are classified as quantitative or scientific:

  • BASC0003 Quantitative Methods and Mathematical Thinking
  • BASC0005 Quantitative Methods 2: Data Science and Visualisation
  • BASC0015 Psychology in the Real World
  • BASC0017 Interdisciplinary Game Theory
  • BASC0019 Science, Art and Co-Design
  • BASC0028 Sustainable Energy

Arts/humanities/social science courses

Following the above rule, students are also expected to take at least one 15 credit module each year in a subject that can be classified as an arts, humanities or social science subject. The following BASc-coded modules are classified as arts, humanities or social science:

  • BASC0004 Object Lessons: Communicating Knowledge through Collections
  • BASC0006 Qualitative Thinking: Research Methods in Cultural Analysis

  • BASC0010 Understanding Cities and their Spatial Cultures
  • BASC0011 Migration and Health
  • BASC0016 Environmental Sociology
  • BASC0018 Urban Inequalities and Global Development
  • BASC0020 Art and Interdisciplinarity: Measuring the World
  • BASC0021 Art, Literature and Censorship
  • BASC0022 Interactions of Music and Science
  • BASC0023 The Knowledge Economy: Consultancy Project
  • BASC0026 Advanced Creative Writing
  • BASC0030 Arts, Nature and Wellbeing: Non-Clinical Interventions in Health
  • BASC0031 Ecosociologies: Theory, Analysis and Action
