Every year, the Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge invites teams of graduate students from around the world to develop and pitch creative financial approaches to tackle pressing social and environmental challenges. This year saw our UCL team of postgraduate students successfully competing against 313 students from 53 countries, submitting proposals for projects spanning 27 countries.

We are delighted that our Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment MSc student team Aaron Kent, Ty Lee, Chandra Rodrigues and Kornelija Ukolovaite, have been selected for the final with their pitch for the "Auaca Fund": Deforestation Prevention and Sustainable Farming through Debt-for-Nature Swaps.

Their proposal is focused on the Brazilian Amazon and the global impact of deforestation and biodiversity loss. The Auaca team’s concept proposes redirecting Brazilian coupon payments on their sovereign debt to fund conservation and the promotion of sustainable farming practices.

We would like congratulate the team for getting into the finals, and wish them luck for their final pitch.
