Value: Full tuition fees plus an annual allowance to cover living and study expenses (£15,864), for the normal duration of the course at UCL. All Promise scholars will also receive on-going academic and career support during their study.

Mandatory criteria for 2025-26. Candidates must:
- Be UK domiciled with home fee status or be a forced migrant (as defined by UCL¹) in the UK.
- have accepted an offer of admission to an undergraduate course for 25/26 academic year
- must not have completed an undergraduate degree at UCL or anywhere else previously
In addition to these mandatory criteria, candidates must meet at least one of the additional criteria:
- be in financial need as assessed by UCL²
- be from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background³
- be from a Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community⁴
- have a disability⁴
- be a care leaver⁴
- Received (or were eligible for) free school meals
- Attend (or have attended) a low performing school for either GCSE or A levels⁵
- Live in a disadvantaged area⁶
- be first generation in family to attend university at undergraduate level

On accepting an offer of a place on a Bartlett undergraduate course for the 2025 intake (this should be no later than 6 June 2025), you will be able to apply for The Bartlett Promise scheme. The Bartlett Promise Scholarship application form will open on 6 June 2025 and close on 4 July 2025 at 23:45 BST.
As part of the application process selected candidates who have met their ‘A’ level grade requirement will be asked to engage in a one-to-one dialogue with the Windsor Fellowship⁷ to discuss anything else which you feel might support your application. Dialogues will be conducted electronically via an appropriate method agreed between the Windsor Fellowship and applicant e.g. telephone, Zoom etc. They will be scheduled by the Windsor Fellowship after the 'A' Level results are released by UCAS.
The Windsor Fellowship is supporting The Bartlett in conducting the one-to-one dialogues that form part of the application process. The Bartlett will share the data of applicants with the Windsor Fellowship for the purposes of conducting these dialogues. By submitting your application, you agree to The Bartlett sharing your information with the Windsor Fellowship.

Eligibility
The Bartlett Promise aims to enable students from backgrounds which are underrepresented in The Bartlett, to pursue postundergraduate research studies at The Bartlett, UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment.

This will be assessed by the school you have applied to and you must have received and accepted an offer from one of The Bartlett schools to study an undergraduate course in 2025-26 to be able to apply for a Bartlett Promise scholarship. The Bartlett Promise team will not assess your academic ability further.

Applying to The Bartlett Promise Scholarship
Candidates applying for a Bartlett Promise Undergraduate scholarship must have received an offer from The Bartlett School of Architecture, The Bartlett School of Planning, The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction or The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources to study an undergraduate course starting in September 2025. You must have accepted your offer in order to apply to The Bartlett Promise.

No. Your offer can be unconditional or conditional. If you are shortlisted and you have an unconditional offer you will go forward to the dialogue stage of the selection process. If you are shortlisted but your offer is conditional on your ‘A’ level results, we will check your results when they are published and if you have met your requirements, you can go forward to the dialogue stage of the selection process.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you must submit an unconditional offer letter to The Bartlett Promise team by email at Bartlett.promise@ucl.ac.uk by 18 September 2025. There is no guarantee that we can accommodate awarded candidates who do not meet the requirement of having an unconditional offer by 18 September 2025.

The successful applicants will be notified by email by 15 September 2025. Those with conditional offers will need to provide an unconditional offer letter by 18 September 2025 in order to confirm their award allocation.
Post-acceptance
As part of The Bartlett Promise, we will provide tailored support services to award holders throughout the life of their course and career support beyond. We will achieve this by bringing in expertise from across UCL to create appropriate packages of support for individual scholars. In addition to this, you will be joining The Bartlett Promise Community of current and previous scholars, benefactors, supporters and friends. This community will support you during your studies and forms a network to guide and sustain you throughout your career.

No. There is currently no part-time option for undergraduate courses.
The stipend is designed to enable scholars to focus on their studies full time. Limited, occasional amounts of part time work may be possible. You should discuss this with personal tutor.
No. The Bartlett Promise scholarship is for UK domiciled students on home fees only.
No. The scholarship offer cannot be deferred. You must take up your place in September 2025. If you are not able to take up a scholarship in 2024, you can apply again in the following year.

Scholarship value
The maintenance stipend for 2025/26 is £15,864 per year.
You will be funded for the full length of your course. This may be three or four years depending on your course.
The fees will be paid directly by The Bartlett Promise to UCL fees. The maintenance stipend will be paid to you in three termly instalments (October, January and April).
There is no additional funding to cover relocation.
The award may be held in conjunction with other scholarships or bursaries, as long as the total value of all your scholarships and bursaries (including The Bartlett Promise) does not exceed the stipend rate set by UKRI which is currently £19,668. This figure may change in the future in line with any changes to course fees and average living costs in London.

The Bartlett Promise works in partnership with donors who share our vision of a more diversified built environment to fund scholarships. Scholars who are awarded a Bartlett Promise scholarship may be sponsored by a donor.

The Derwent London Bartlett Promise Scholarship fully funded fees and living costs for an Architecture MSci student over four years, starting in the 2020-21 academic year.
