Overview
Researchers from the University of Liverpool and UCL conducted a 9-month study into the delivery of social and affordable housing in rural parts of Northern Ireland. Funded by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE), the project involved in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including housing associations, developers and key policy actors. It culminated in roundtables with a broad range of housing groups. Social and affordable housing targets have consistently been missed in Northern Ireland during recent year and the purpose of the research was better understand delivery constraints and potential planning and capacity barriers. The work was led by Dr Tom Moore at Liverpool University and involved Professor Nick Gallent, Dr Phoebe Stirling, and Dr Andrew Purves at UCL.
This project started on 31 July 2023 and will run until 31 March 2024.
