  • Key sectors for decarbonisation in partnership with HSBC

A year before COP26 took place, HSBC commissioned research from UCL to investigate four key sectors that would need to decarbonise for the UK to have any prospect of meeting its legally binding net-zero commitment for 2050. The four sectors were agriculture, freight transport, manufacturing and commercial real estate. In the subsequent months, researchers from the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources (ISR) and the UCL Energy Institute produced their reports on the decarbonisation of these sectors. Each report was launched by HSBC with an online webinar featuring the lead researcher, an HSBC commentator, and discussants from the relevant sector. All the reports were published in this way prior to COP26, and also released by UCL through its COP26 Campaign, ‘Together for Climate Action’.
