Online tools

Researchers at the Institute for Sustainable Heritage actively develop accessible tools that can help preventive conservation. Users can access the IMPACT tool for the estimation of pollutant concentrations, visualise their data in a digital psychrometric chart and estimate dust deposition rates. Other tools for collections modelling and materials degradation are in preparation.

Modelling and simulation

Computational models of heritage objects and environments can play a key role in analysis and decision making. The ISH has pioneered the use of different types of models in preventive conservation: Building Information Modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Systems and Agent-Based Modelling.

Environmental monitoring

Data collection and analysis are an essential aspect of preventive conservation. The equipment of our labs (Heritage Science Lab and Mobile Heritage Lab), combined with measurement protocols developed by ISH, enables a total characterisation of heritage environments.
