Overview

Amount of grant: £23,429 for UCL, total is £54,135
Project partners: Grantham Institute for Climate Change - Imperial College

This project explores India’s emissions trajectories to 2050 under specified assumptions around economic growth, industrial structure, population growth, urbanisation and electrification, and with different levels of ambition for the deployment of low-carbon technologies. The analysis will form the basis of designing and implementing energy systems development scenarios in the TIAM-UCL energy system model (TIAM-UCL), to examine India’s future emissions pathways in a business-as-usual trajectory and also as part of a global decarbonisation pathway that avoids dangerous climate change. The energy system model analysis will highlight the range of low-carbon technologies available to India, the scale at which they could be deployed, and the cost implications of doing this, as well as the implications for fossil fuel demand in the Indian economy.

Outputs

A final report with a detailed description of the context, scenarios, results, and implications of India’s low carbon pathway will be published jointly by researchers from Imperial College (Grantham Institute for Climate Change) and UCL Energy Institute.
