This research proposes the use of mapping as a critical tool to facilitate the strengthening of people’s critical abilities in relation to the production of the built environment. This research intends to evaluate not only the role of mapping to the analysis of the production and reproduction of space but also to outline the meanings of the act of mapping to individuals and collectivities. This research considers the psychic dynamics that may indicate the importance of mapping in promoting a less passive relation of people with the production of the built environment and, hence, to the human processes of development.
