UCL IIPP was pleased to respond to the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority’s (EIOPA) consultation on its recent Report on biodiversity risk management by insurers and strongly welcomes its work in this critical area. Our response builds on extensive work by IIPP researchers on nature-related financial risks and impacts. This includes contributions on the implications of the climate-biodiversity nexus for financial supervisors (Kedward et al., 2022); the macro-financial risks of drastic nature loss (Marsden et al., 2024a), and transformative conservation policies (Kedward and Poupard, 2024); how financial actors may contribute to the risks to which they are exposed (Kedward and Ryan-Collins, 2022; Marsden et al., 2024b); and modelling approaches for scenario analysis of nature loss and associated transition policies (Svartzman et al., 2023; Salin et al., 2024).
