At the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Seville, the Brazilian Ministry of Finance convened two sessions of the Global Platform of Women Leaders in Finance to strengthen female leadership in sustainable finance and align development finance with social and gender equity goals. Participants included Mariana Mazzucato (UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose; Strategic Economics Alliance), Luciana Servo (IPEA), Maria Fernanda Valdés (UN-DESA), Mónica Colomer (Ambassador for Development Finance), Wendy Teleki (World Bank We-Fi), Diana Rodríguez (IDB), Alejandra Claros (CAF), Gloria Hervas (Santander), and Keiti Gomes and Débora Freire (Ministry of Finance, Brazil). Mariana Mazzucato emphasized the importance of directionality in public finance—arguing that financing for development must be mission-oriented and co-shaped by strong public institutions, not just designed to de-risk private investment. The sessions were opened by Fernanda Santiago (Special Advisor to the Minister of Finance) and closed by Cristina Reis (Undersecretary for Sustainable Economic Development) and Ana Cláudia Rossbach (UN-Habitat), reinforcing Brazil’s commitment to gender-responsive economic policy in the lead-up to COP30.
