Emily Bunting is Chief of Staff to Professor Mariana Mazzucato at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP).
Before joining IIPP, Emily worked at UK Government Investments (UKGI) where she advised UK Government departments on complex corporate finance and corporate governance matters. Whilst at UKGI Emily led the creation of UKGI’s Corporate Finance Group and established UKGI’s environmental stewardship governance guidance.
Prior to UKGI Emily worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and Rothschild & Co where she advised on debt and M&A transactions across a range of sectors.
Emily is currently on the Board of Trustees for The Conversation UK (TCUK), a charity which supports the democratisation of knowledge.
Many experiences throughout Emily's life have inspired 'rethinking' and 'reimagining'. From early experiences in small/medium enterprise through to a career in investment banking and then on into a career in Government and the third sector; Emily is excited to put her various perspectives to good use by being a part of UCL IIPP's journey in reimagining the role of the state in tackling society's biggest challenges.
Emily and her wife Elizabeth are passionate about adventure and learning. After cycling together across South Korea in 2023 they are hoping to find a way to bring their dog Bandit with them on their next trip.
