Shobhit Shakya
Shobhit Shakya is an Honorary Research Fellow at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP).

Shobhit Shakya is an Honorary Research Fellow at the UCL Institute of Innovation and Public Purpose and a Research Fellow at the Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance at TalTech. His work explores administration through a social-anthropological lens, with a focus on the humanistic dimensions of governance. His research emphasises non-Western perspectives, particularly focusing on the Himalayan region, examining themes such as Buddhist governance principles, digitality, community engagements, and social-ritualisation.
Transitioning from research of e-governance to that of Non-Western Public Administration and Governance, Shobhit has employed interdisciplinarity—bridging social anthropological approaches and Public Administration—in both theoretical and methodological frameworks. He has contributed to several major research projects, including Islamic Public Value (John Templeton Foundation), which ran from 2022 to May 2025.
Shobhit serves as the Managing Editor of Halduskultuur – The Estonian Journal of Administrative Culture and Digital Governance. He is also highly involved in community activism concerning the Newar community of Nepal and is generally involved in matters of minority rights and ethno-linguistic inclusivity in Nepal.
