Damon Aitken
Damon Aitken is a Research Fellow at the UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP).
Damon Aitken is a Research Fellow working on Macrofinancial Policy for the Green Transition. He recently submitted his PhD in Economics at SOAS and holds Master's degrees from SOAS and HKU as well as a Bachelor's from NYU.
Damon's research interests lie in ecological economics, macroeconomics, and development economics with a particular interest in the interaction of green macroeconomic and green industrial policies. He is also interested in further integrating ecological science into macroeconomic theory and modelling. In the past, he has conducted research on the cost of capital for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and developing economies for teams at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs as well as contributed to an Oxford Handbook chapter on the role of finance in greening economic development. He also taught modules on international trade, China, Asia-Pacific economies, the political economy of development, and introductory mathematics at SOAS.
In his free time, Damon loves to get out into nature, hike, play racquet sports, and learn languages. He speaks six languages and is always looking to pick up more!
