IIPP Roundtable with Octopus Energy

On the 16th December 2024, IIPP hosted a roundtable with the CEO of Octopus Energy, Greg Jackson, and the Director General for Industrial Strategy, Sam Lister. Also at the event were senior representatives from the Cabinet Office, Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), Treasury, the National Wealth Fund, the World Wildlife Fund, and businesses including EDF and NESO.

The roundtable brought together leading figures from government, businesses, and trade unions to discuss a collaborative, mission-oriented approach to greening the UK economy and delivering the UK's Net Zero goals (clean power by 2030, net zero by 2050). We explored opportunities and challenges related to fostering more mutualistic partnerships between government, business, and trade union actors, oriented around shared goals and aimed at producing shared value.  Generating inclusive and sustainable economic growth for the UK requires getting public-private partnerships right. In other words, ensuring that the private sector is paying their fair share, and that both risks and rewards are shared.
