The Value of Urban Design was funded by the Campaign for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) - Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) in 2000.
Overview
This influential project attempted to gather data on whether urban design can add economic, social and environmental value, and in what circumstances. Six case studies where undertaken in three pairs and a wide range of qualitative and quantitative data was examined. The evidence pointed to better urban design adding value in each of the three dimensions.

- Impact
This research was used extensively by CABE to argue the case for investing in better design quality. It was also quoted extensively in government, local government and other reports in the UK and overseas. In addition, it was used methodologically as the basis for other studies on value and design.
