The Bartlett School of Planning at the 12th World Urban Forum

BSP will be part of the UCL academics representing The Bartlett in the UN-Habitat's global conference on urbanisation in Cairo, Egypt.

BSP at WUF

A team of academics from The Bartlett School of Planning (BSP) will be part of the 12th World Urban Forum in Cairo, Egypt taking place from the 4th to the 8th of November 2024. Held every two years, the World Urban Forum is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). The focus is sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities. 

EVENTS  

The team from BSP who are attending in person are part of the academics who will be representing the faculty in knowledge exchanges. They are collaborating in high-level dialogues and showcase events organised by the United Nations’ Habitat Professionals Forum (UN HPF) and Habitat University Initiative (Habitat UNI). The Bartlett is also a partner in the International Institute for Environment (IIED)’s WUF12 Urban Expo Booth, Habitat Village.  

Inclusive Crisis Recovery: Tuesday 5th 4.30pm (Urban Expo Hall) 

This is part of the Habitat UNI’s WUF12 lecture Series. Dr Lucy Natarajan and Dr Michael Short, co-editors of Engaged Urban Pedagogy (UCL Press, 2023), will present work of academics and students at the Bartlett School of Planning. They are joined by the current President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Lyndsay Richards.   

Participatory Democracy Event:  Wednesday 6th 5pm (H04-A15) 

Held at the Habitat Village, showcasing case studies co-produced with urbanists. The cases illustrate the participatory principles of urban and territorial development. This work was enabled thanks to a grant from the Bartlett Public Policy Support Fund. 

Professionals Roundtable: Thursday 7th 1.30pm (Room A) 

The Bartlett has been working closely with UN HPF on the Roadmap to Recovery and supporting the development of an International Participatory Charter (to be launched on Tuesday 5th). The faculty is represented in the UN HPF’s round table, where the team will co-chair breakout sessions. 

Research & Academia Roundtable: Friday 8th 10am (Room B & Live Streaming on UN Web TV) 

The BSP will contribute to the Academia Roundtable, convened by Habitat UNI, GPEAN, ACU(CSCI), EC-JRC, and IDEAMAPS. Dr Natarajan joins the panel of international academic and government delegates on Pathways for Knowledge Co-production and Partnerships.
